About this work
There are some verses that feel instantly familiar, even before we think about their meaning. Ayat al-Kursi, the Verse of the Throne, is one of them. Recited in homes, after prayer, before sleep, and in moments when the heart seeks protection, it is one of the most cherished verses of the Qur’an.
This piece presents Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 255, in a beautiful Jali Thuluth style. Jali Thuluth is known for its elegance, strength, and sweeping movement. The tall letters, flowing curves, and balanced spacing give the verse a sense of dignity and presence. It is a style often used for sacred texts because it does more than write the words. It honours them.
The meaning of Ayat al-Kursi is deeply powerful. It speaks of Allah’s absolute oneness, His eternal life, His perfect knowledge, and His complete authority over the heavens and the earth. It reminds us that Allah never tires, never sleeps, and that everything is held within His knowledge and protection.
Approximate translation:
“Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and preserving them does not tire Him. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”
The black calligraphy is set against a soft ivory background, with delicate gold floral details adding warmth and refinement. The deep blue mount gives the artwork depth and calmness, while the warm wooden frame completes the piece with a timeless, elegant feel.
This is a piece that carries beauty, but also meaning. It is ideal for a prayer space, living room, hallway, study, or as a meaningful gift for someone’s home.
