Printing
A 12-Colour Fine-Art Printing Process
Each piece is reproduced using archival pigment inks on high-quality fine-art paper.
We use a 12-colour printing process rather than the standard four-colour process used for ordinary printing. This allows for smoother tonal changes, more accurate warm colours and better reproduction of the fine details found in traditional calligraphy.
The pigment inks sit on the surface of the paper as very fine particles. This helps preserve the colour, detail and texture of the original artwork while allowing the paper to retain its natural fine-art finish.
- Paper
- High-quality fine-art paper selected to preserve line, tone and texture
- Ink
- Archival pigment inks
- Process
- 12-colour printing for smoother transitions and more accurate warm and metallic tones
- Production
- Printed to order. Please allow 5 to 10 business days before dispatch
Every piece in the collection is a fine-art reproduction of an original artwork. We work directly with contemporary calligraphers, and the artist is credited on each product page.
Frames
Real Wood Frames, Made for Each Piece
All calligraphy pieces are sold framed.
Every frame is made from real wood and assembled in South Africa. We do not use wrapped board or moulded synthetic frames.
Frames up to A2 and 300 × 300 mm are made using our stocked frame profiles. Sizes larger than A2 or 300 × 300 mm are custom-made for the artwork and joined specifically for the piece.
-
White
A clean and simple finish that works well with light interiors, warm ivory backgrounds and groups of artworks displayed together.
-
Black
Creates a strong edge around the composition and draws attention back to the calligraphy. It works particularly well with bold scripts and high-contrast pieces.
-
Natural Wood
Sanded and sealed while keeping the natural grain visible. Each frame has slight variations and works comfortably in most interiors.
-
African Walnut
A rich mid-brown finish with visible wood grain. It gives the artwork warmth and presence without feeling as bold as black.
-
Mahogany
Our darkest and warmest frame finish. Its red-brown tone works especially well with gold details and larger traditional pieces.
Available finishes may differ depending on the artwork and size. The options shown on each product page are the finishes available for that piece.
Border Options
Each calligraphy piece is available with one of two border treatments.
A white border creates space between the artwork and the frame. This can help balance detailed or densely written compositions.
Choosing no border brings the artwork closer to the edge of the frame, making the image feel larger within the same overall size.
Ready to Hang
Every frame leaves the studio fully assembled and ready to hang. It is wrapped in protective packaging before being sent by courier.
No assembly is required when it arrives.
Restored Photographs
Printed on Acrylic
Our restored historical photographs are printed directly onto acrylic, also known as Perspex, rather than being framed behind glass.
The image is reverse printed onto the back of the acrylic panel using UV-cured inks. An opaque white layer is then applied behind the print to keep the colours and details clear.
Because the image is viewed through the acrylic, the panel adds depth, contrast and a subtle three-dimensional quality. The front has a smooth, high-gloss finish that is hard wearing, easy to clean and resistant to UV exposure.
- Substrate
- Smooth acrylic panel with a gloss finish
- Thickness
- 2 mm up to A2
3 mm from A1 upwards - UV-cured inks, reverse printed with a white backing layer
- Mounting
- A 25 mm sub-frame is fitted to the back, with D-rings for hanging. Wooden sub-frames are used up to A1, and aluminium is used above A1. The panel sits approximately 25 mm away from the wall.
- Longevity
- Tested to last approximately 75 years when displayed away from direct sunlight
Sizes
Choosing the Right Size
Available sizes depend on the artwork. The product page will always show the sizes offered for that specific piece.

How to Choose
Start by measuring the wall and the furniture below it.
When hanging a piece above a sofa, bed or console, the artwork will usually look balanced when it is slightly narrower than the furniture, with space left on either side.
Landscape pieces work well above beds, sofas and dining tables. Portrait pieces are better suited to narrow walls, entrances and spaces beside doorways.
Larger and custom sizes may be available for selected artworks. Send us the name of the piece and the dimensions you need, and we will confirm what is possible.
