A Few Words on Ayat al-Kursi with Mawlana Saalim Peck
We had the honour of having Mawlana Saalim Peck share a few words with us about Ayat al-Kursi.
In this short video, he reminds us why this verse holds such a special place in our faith. His words bring us back to its central message: Allah alone is worthy of worship, His knowledge covers all things, and caring for the heavens and the earth does not tire Him.

It is one of the greatest descriptions, if not the greatest description of Allah, found in the Qur’an.
A’udhu billahi min ash-shaytanir rajim. Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Nahmaduhu wa nusalli ala Rasulihil Karim, amma ba’d. Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
Ayat al-Kursi, verse 255 of chapter 2 of the glorious Qur’an, is one of the greatest descriptions, if not the greatest description of Allah, found in the Qur’an. It comes with so much value, and so much of our faith is embedded in this beautiful verse.
“Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa”—the cornerstone of our faith as Muslims: Allah, there is no deity worthy of worship besides Him.
“La ta’khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm.” No sleep nor slumber overtakes Him or has Him in its grasp at any point in time. Allah is ever aware of every single thing that He has created.
“Lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-ard.” To Him belongs everything that exists in the heavens and on the earth.
“Man dhal-ladhi yashfa’u indahu illa bi-idhnih.” Who is there that might intercede with Him except through His express permission?
“Ya’lamu ma bayna aydihim wa ma khalfahum.” He knows what happened before them and whatever will happen after them.
“Wa la yuhituna bi-shay’in min ilmihi illa bima sha’.” They do not possess any part of His knowledge except that which He wills and allows.
“Wasi’a kursiyyuhus-samawati wal-ard.” His Kursi, or footstool, encompasses the entire heavens and earth.
“Wa la ya’uduhu hifdhuhuma.” Looking after them and seeing to the needs of the heavens and the earth does not tire Him in any way.
“Wa Huwal-Aliyyul-Azim.” And He is the Most High, the Great. This is the Lord that we believe in. Subhanallah.
