Abdurrahim Kahya
Abdurrahim Kahya is a Turkish calligrapher born in Ankara in 1986. He completed his memorisation of the Qur’an in Konya in 2000 and began studying the classical Thuluth and Naskh scripts under Mustafa Parıldar and Abdurrahman Depeler in 2005.
He later studied traditional calligraphy at university, graduating in 2010. During his training, he studied Riqa, Diwani and Jali Diwani under Prof. Dr. Fatih Özkafa, while also benefiting from the guidance of renowned masters including Davut Bektaş, Mehmet Özçay and Osman Özçay.
His work has received recognition in several national and international competitions. Among his awards are third place in Jali Thuluth at the 2015 Seven Hills Seven Arts International Classical Arts Competition, second place at the 2015 Halil İbrahim Meetings, third place at the 2017 Balıkesir Traditional Arts Competition and second place at the 2018 International Albaraka Calligraphy Competition.
Alongside his artistic practice, he has served as an imam under the Konya-Selçuklu Mufti’s Office since 2007. His work includes classical compositions in Jali Thuluth, Thuluth, Naskh, Muhaqqaq, Diwani and Jali Diwani, and has been presented in exhibitions and cultural events internationally.
